Remember, kid's 12 years and under are admitted to SkyFest for free with an accompanying parent or guardian. The Newton Memorial Hospital Kid's Zone at The Skylands Music & Arts Festival offers a continuous variety of free daytime activities that will entertain and educate your young festivarians. Here's a sampling of some of the activities planned for 2010.

 

Paper Art with Teri Mooney & Cartooning with Tom Mooney

 

Teri Mooney is from Blairstown and is an artist, musician and teacher who has provided inspiration in art and music to children of all ages. Teri will demonstrate the ancient Japanese art of Origami at SkyFest. Her husband Tom is a musician and cartoonist and the creator of "Mooneytoons". Tom will demonstrate basic cartooning techniques to aspiring cartoonists at the festival. Together they perform as the improvisational children's music band "Banana Moon Pie". Perhaps we can coax a duo performance out of them? You never know.



Hooping with Jessica Towle and One Whirled Hoop Troupe

 

 

 

Instructor Jessica Towle has been hooping since 2005. She has worked, studied, and played with numerous international Hoop performers. Her greatest influence has been the "Great Hoop Of Life". Jessica teaches several hoop classes and workshops in North Carolina and New Jersey and will spreading the spin to kids of all ages at SkyFest 2010.

 

 



Face Painting with Salad City Theater Productions

 

 

 

 

Salad City Theater Productions offers theater workshops for kids run by teens for tweens and kids. Their mission is to create a program to instill Cooperation, Communication and Theater Skills.

 

 



Kids Nature Program with Naturalist Nicole Rose of Discover Nature

 

 

 

 

 

Nicole Rose, local naturalist, wildlife rehabilitator, and educator from Discover Nature has designed a Jr. Naturalist workshops for children

 

 

 

 

 

 



Paper Puppets and Watercolor Bookmarks with Marybeth Journe

 

 

 

 

 

Artist and Teacher Marybeth Journe. Marybeth has been painting professionally for over 15 years in Frelinghuysen and enjoys painting the local scenery, mostly on tumbled marble and ceramic tiles.  She teaches watercolor and acrylic painting to children and adults in Blairstown. 

 

 

 



Games with Cathy Barbier

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cathy Barbier is a teacher at the Ridge and Valley Charter School in Blairstown, NJ.  She has been leading Project Adventure games and initiatives for over 10 years and works with children of all ages. Come on by for some exciting games and lots of laughs!
