Danú's latest album "Think Before you Think" reviewed in Dirty Linen

Danú has been widely praised (and rightly so) for their youth and the enthusiasm they
bring to their music. But three years after their first recording, that youth and enthusiasm
has been tempered with maturity, making for an even better musical mix. The energy with
which they attack the tunes is still in evidence, but they also now show a fine sense of
restraint, adding yet another dimension to their sound. The musical spotlight is spread
around. Tom Doorley (flute, whistle), Brendan McCarthy (button accordion), and Jesse
Smith (fiddle) all get a chance to show off their creativity and skill. The music is solidly
anchored by Eamon Doorley’s bouzouki, Noel Tryan’s guitar, and Donnchadh Gough’s
inventive bodhrán playing. Gough also doubles as the band’s uilleann piper and is featured
on a couple of the sets. The five songs (two in Irish, three in English) are masterfully sung
by Ciaran O’ Gealbhain, who is backed tastefully by the rest of the band. But the bottom
line with Danú is the sheer joy they bring to playing the music. If they weren’t
professionals, they’d be home sitting in the pub playing the same music with the same
energy. Easily the Irish album of the year. Highly recommended. 7/5/2000
